CD Projekt RED has announced a new project: The Witcher Remake. “The Game That Started It All” will be rebuilt from the ground up based on Unreal Engine 5 and is in the early stages of development.
The RPG production is in the hands of the studio Fool’s Theory, in which several veterans of the franchise will take care of the title. CDPR will work together with the company as a “creative supervisor”. The Witcher Remake is the project codenamed “Canis Majoris”. The game had been revealed by the Polish company itself on October 4 – along with two other IP games.
“It [Canis Majoris] will be developed by an outside studio led by experienced developers who have worked on previous Witcher games.”
Adam Badowski, head of CDPR, had this to say about the announcement of The Witcher Remake:
“The Witcher was the beginning of everything for us at CD Projekt RED. It was the first one we did and that was a big moment for us. Coming back to that place and remaking the game for the next generation of gamers to venture into is a big deal, if not bigger.”
About the collaboration with Fool’s Theory, Badowski revealed to be quite excited:
“They know the raw material very well, they also know how much players wanted this remake to happen. Moreover, they know how to make amazing and ambitious games. And although it takes a while for us to bring you more information about the game, it will be worth the wait.”
