When you can’t find a car you like, you commission Ferrari to build one to your exact specification. That is the story of the latest Ferrari SP51 which uses the underpinnings of a V12 812 GTS.

It’s difficult to believe that in the current age where there is seemingly a car suited to every need, there are still people who require one built to their specific requirements. Maybe it is about engaging in the design process to develop a truly passionate relationship with the car before it is even made or perhaps it is more about exclusivity and prestige.

Either way, a one-percenter living in Taiwan has been the most recent Ferrari customer who has tasked the team to build a one-off. Based on the existing Ferrari 812, the SP51 includes a front-engined V12 which likely puts out 588 kW and 718 N.m from the 6,5-litre Italian motor.

While we can imagine that is normally the compelling aspect of purchasing a Ferrari, the SP51 boasts a completely redesigned exterior. It bears a resemblance to the model on which it is based but its headlights and taillights are unique while the front grille has been enlarged and proudly displays carbon fibre.

The model has been finished in Rosso Passionale while a blue stripe with a smaller white one on each end run down the centre of the Prancing Horse which harkens back to the 1955 410 S. On the inside, the same shade of red can be found on the Alcantara while the blue and white are subtly placed around details like the seats and dashboard.

As with all previous Ferrari one-offs, the price remains a mystery but we can imagine that since a Ferrari 812 GTS costs just under R10 million locally, something as bespoke as this would likely multiply that value by a few increments.
