“All that glitters is not gold” reminds us that not everything that looks shiny, new, and wonderful is worth your time and money. Even though automakers build cars that are much more reliable than ever before, there are still some new cars that smart drivers won’t buy. These could be the latest EVs that are the first from a brand, a return of an old name, or a vehicle that feels rushed to the market. Here are a few new cars you might want to avoid, making you a smart driver too.

The Subaru WRX is one of the new cars that smart drivers avoid

are there really some new cars that smart drivers avoid?

Subaru WRX STI | Subaru

Although the WRX has experienced incredible success since it became a stand-alone model instead of part of the Impreza lineup, the WRX is getting old. Unfortunately, this is when many smart drivers will also stay away from cars. If a car isn’t refreshed for a new generation, many consumers assume the automaker is moving away from that vehicle.

Thankfully, Subaru should have a new version of the WRX soon, which might be worth waiting for. The current generation is outdated and lacks the drive quality for the price tag on this car.

Did Nissan miss the mark with the Titan XD?

are there really some new cars that smart drivers avoid?

Nissan Titan XD | Nissan

The Nissan Titan came out of the gate strong and has been a pretty good truck during its tenure in the market. The Titan XD takes things to a different level. The XD isn’t a half-ton or a three-quarter-ton truck; it falls somewhere in the middle.

Car and Driver tells us that the Titan XD has fallen short of expectations for years due to the lack of towing and payload capability compared to other trucks in the market. Sitting bigger than half-ton pickups, the Titan XD can only tow 10,880 pounds with a conventional hitch. This doesn’t come close to where the Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 reach, each handling 12,000 pounds with ease.

You don’t have to be a smart driver to avoid the Mitsubishi Mirage

are there really some new cars that smart drivers avoid?

Mitsubishi Mirage | Mitsubishi

One of the new cars that most smart drivers, and others, avoid many times over is the Mitsubishi Mirage. The Mirage is a car that you only buy if you don’t have any other options at all, and we mean at all. The design is outdated, and the performance is meager, which is putting things nicely.

This cheap car hit the bottom of Consumer Reports ratings for its class, which has shrunk over the past several years. If the Mirage continues, it might be the highest and lowest-rated car in the class because it could be the only one left.

The Ford Edge is one of the new cars that smart drivers avoid buying

are there really some new cars that smart drivers avoid?

Ford Edge | Ford

The Ford Edge started something that others followed and did better. For a few years, the only midsize SUVs with two rows of seats were the Ford Edge and Jeep Grand Cherokee. Since the Edge caught on, other models came into the market with the same formula.

Unfortunately, Ford hasn’t updated the Edge. It no longer has the power and performance to give us a thrilling driving experience. You can spend less and enjoy better two-row midsize SUVs. Examples that come to mind are the Chevy Blazer and Nissan Murano.

You might want to avoid driving the Infiniti Q60

are there really some new cars that smart drivers avoid?

Infiniti Q60 | Infiniti

One of the most attractive new cars in the market that smart drivers will avoid is the Infiniti Q60. This car was originally sold as the G37 and rebadged and restyled when it took on the Q60 name. This car is a sporty-looking coupe that can be fun to look at and show off. Don’t expect much from the performance.

You’ll be disappointed if you’re expecting sporty luxury driving in the Q60. This car offers a rather boring driving experience, signaling that it might be on its way out of the market. This Infiniti Q60 sports coupe is an outdated car that you should avoid.
